Abuela Rebeca

Maria Rebeca Acosta Ibarra was born on a leap year on February 29, 1929 in the tiny town of San Pedro in Jalisco, Mexico. She could remember her mother and fathers full names but could not quite remember how many siblings she had. She believed there were twelve. She was also not sure when her family came to Ensenada but she knew she was pretty young.

Rebeca loved to talk but struggled with her memory. Conversations with her jumped from topic to topic. She remembered that she worked in a big shoe store. She loved working there and said she was good at selling shoes. She remembered going to the rodeo and watching the bulls run. She loved going to parties. As she got older, knitting was her favorite hobby. Eventually it became too hard for her hands to hold the needles.

Rebeca was at Casa del Abuelo just shy of two years. She was kind, caring and loving. She was a happy lady who was very talkative and loved to sing. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2021. She will be greatly missed by all.
